Houria Niati’s “No To Torture”

In this graduate seminar, we will examine the relationship between literary and cultural production, colonial power, and the formations and deformations of national identity. We will focus on literary texts and theories that have emerged out of the experience of colonialism, and addresses issues such as displacement, appropriation, authenticity, fragmentation, and hybridity. Moreover, we will discuss issues of gender and sexuality pertaining to colonialism, intersection of feminist and postcolonial thought.
